I am ramping up my selling, and selling from my personal collection because my youngest sibling lost her home, vehicle and all but the pajamas they were wearing when an unimaginably strong wall of water overtook her home around 8:30am in the morning Saturday Aug 21, 2021 in the Middle to Western area of our state.
Thankfully her dog, which sadly perished the same morning woke her up as the first torrent of water began to invade every crack and opening it could. She rushed to her kids bedroom and shook them both awake and it was then the wall of water slammed through the sliding glass door and literally sucked all three of them out of the house and into the muddy, debris packed river. My nephew was able to catch the tailgate of their neighbors pickup truck and was rescued there no worse for wear about 4 hours later.
My Sister and Neice were swept almost a mile down stream and after being battered by the water and everything in it, washed up in a church parking lot. My sister suffered a dislocated knee and leg fracture and my niece required dozens of stitches as well as a fractured wrist from holding on to her mother the entire time. Thankfully all three are recovering physically here at my home which is almost 4 hours away.
Sadly because she lived over 2 miles from the nearest flood plain, she did not carry flood insurance and has literally lost the entirety of her Possessions including Birth Certificates, important job papers, she has literally lost everything and at 30 years old with a 10 and 7 year old must start completely over. My Brother and I went over there for a few days this week to try and salvage anything we could and besides my nephews bicycle, the foundation is all that remains of her home.
🥺Unfortunately her 5 year old life saving Mixed Breed Shelter Mutt, Named Papaw of all things lol(that’s the exact kind of name you get when letting a 2yr old boy with ADHD name the family pet!) was electrocuted while being trapped somewhere in the house. His body was found with telltale singe and burn marks the next day in the Neighbors yard. I wish he would have lived, because I owe that 65lb dog the World and I never even met him while he was alive!😢
Anyways, I am going to try everything I can to help her and her children get to the next, better chapter of their Lives. I honestly think that she’s still in shock and hasn’t really processed what happened and I don’t look forward to that taking place.
I have never been one to accept charity and have always felt that If I needed something for my family, I worked for it and if I couldn’t afford it and we were still alive, well then I didn’t need it that bad after all. I am not going to start now if I can at all help it.
